OnePlus 5T Release Date: Specs, price, rumors

Heard the rumours about the mysterious OnePlus 5T smartphone? Here’s what we know so far about the OnePlus 5T release date, design, specs, features, and price – including the latest news and rumours.
OnePlus launched its latest phone in June, so you’d be forgiven for thinking this article seems entirely premature.
But if last year taught us anything, it’s that OnePlus will gladly replace a flagship smartphone with a newer model in as few as four months, and it appears we’re getting a repeat of that roadmap in 2017.
Read on for all the latest news and rumours about the elusive OnePlus 5T.

OnePlus 5T Release Date: When does the OnePlus 5T launch?

OnePlus has confirmed that the OnePlus 5T will be revealed during a special event in Brooklyn, New York at 4pm GMT on November 16, 2017.
The phone will be announced during a keynote called ‘A New View’, which can be watched live through the official OnePlus website.
Exclusive pre-orders through the official OnePlus UK network partner O2 will begin online at 5:15pm GMT on November 16. This will be followed by in-store pre-orders on November 17.
However, the OnePlus 5T won’t go on open sale until 2pm GMT on November 21.

OnePlus 5T Design, Specs and Features: What’s new with the OnePlus 5T?

The main upgrade we saw with the OnePlus 3T last year was the move from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 processor to the marginally-improved Snapdragon 821 chipset, which offered a 10% speed boost.
This year, however, there’s been no such iterative chip announced. Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 835 – which appears in the OnePlus 5, Samsung Galaxy S8, and LG V30 – has yet to be superseded.
This means that unless Qualcomm surprises us with a new chip, it’s unlikely that a supposed OnePlus 5T would get a processor upgrade.
Instead, it’s reported – by GizmoChina, a tech blog – that the OnePlus 5T will feature a large 6-inch display with a 2160 x 1080-pixel resolution. That’s compared to the 5.5-inch, 1920 x 1080-pixel display seen on the OnePlus 5. This also means a switch to an 18:9 aspect ratio, rather than the more traditional 16:9.
All this points to the possibility of OnePlus finally adopting an all-screen front with minimal bezel.
This all-screen aesthetic is an increasingly common design trend, and has already been seen featured on the following phones:
OnePlus may be concerned that the thick-bezelled OnePlus 5 might not be attractive to consumers, given how its key rivals are toting space-age, all-screen designs.
The obvious solution is to launch a largely similar OnePlus 5T model that gives users a more premium option, for if they’re not sold on the more conventional OnePlus 5 design.
We’ve already seen a couple of render leaks that showcase the possible new design – see below:

As far as other specs go, we’re still in the dark. But if the main change is on the design front, it’s likely we’ll see a similar spec sheet.

OnePlus 5T Price: How much will the OnePlus 5T cost?

There hasn’t been any information about the OnePlus 5T price leaked online yet, so we can’t say anything for certain.
Given that the OnePlus 5T is looking as though it’ll be a premium device – akin to the iPhone X – we’d expect a minor price hike.
The OnePlus 5 currently costs £449 for the 64GB model, and £499 for the 128GB model. That’s far below the prices of its key rivals, with most flagships currently retailing for beyond £650.
If an all-screen OnePlus is released, it’s probably going to cost more in the region of £599+, although we’ve heard nothing official on the matter thus far.
